From time to time, Joomla updates the core installation. Keeping yourself updated is often essential for the security and integrity of your website. Thankfully, it’s not too difficult. Just follow these steps:
1. Backup your Joomla installation before making any changes
2. Login to the administration backend of your Joomla installation
3. Navigate to extensions/extensions manager, click on ‘update’ tab
4. click ‘find updates’ (if nothing appears, you’re up to date)
5. click the checkbox on the listed update and click ‘update’
6. That’s it!
If your update was not successful (or if you’re using Joomla 1.5), follow the manual update steps below:
1. Download the specific upgrade file for your installation here
2. extract the downloaded Zip file
3. Using FTP, transfer the files to your server, overwriting the existing files
4. If you’re using Joomla 2.5 (or higher) navigate to extensions/extensions manager
5. Click the ‘database’ tab and make sure that the ‘database schema version’ matches the version number you just installed.
6. If not, locate and click the ‘fix’ icon in the top right corner to fix your database
7. That’s it!
