[SOLVED] installing (youshows) demo to subfolder

hi, originally i downloaded and installed youmovies demo but it isn't what i need so i would like to change to youshows.

since i want to keep content (articles and pictures), can you please advice me (or point to a tutorial) on how to install the demo of youshows in a subfolder on cpanel (server) and copy it over?

alternatively, would it be easier to somehow make backups of the articles and pic i want to keep, UNinstall youmovies, install youshows... and then upload the backups?

not sure which is the best way to accomplish this.

thank you in advance for your help.

To start with, wouldn't it be much easier to just install the template you want, set that as default, install any extensions you want, and if need be move some modules around (module positions aren't that different from the top of my head).

Normal joomla installation demo tut: How to install Youjoomla Demo?

Subdomain tut: Fresh Joomla 1.5.1 Install -- Instructions

Basically you just follow the first tut, but in cpanel you create subdomain, and use that subdomain for the rest of the steps.

In case of failure, i always use https://www.akeebabackup.com/. The no1 joomla (backup) solution, an absolute essential. This you use for backups, all other methods (db dump etc) are well for people with too much time Takes some reading, but is really user friendly, can't praise it enough.

If you are into it you can also use it to just overwrite com_content (or whatever) and that is all explained on akeeba.

You could also install akeeba on your maindomain, upload kickstart and backup to subdomain, run it, install new template and you are done.

it would, which is why i installed the template already. the problem, however, are simply the names of the extensions? i asked in another thread but it went unanswered so i figured it was taboo or something.

other than:

yjnewsflash 7.0
yj news slider 8.0
yjms 2.0
multitabs

what others would i need to make it like youshows demo without actually installing the demo?

i don't want help customizing, i just want to know the names of all the module/extensions/plugins that are included in the demo version. specifically, what is the module in bottom position with the tabs that say 'tv shows' 'reality shows' etc etc? and what is the module (video picture slider) in the advert position called?

thanks very much.

No taboo's, must have slipped through then.

Extensions are:
yj multitab (bottom)
yj newsflash2
yj_nf7
yj_nf8
yj_studio (advert 1)

If you feel installing the demo in a sub directory is a bit tricky, you might want to consider just installing it locally with wamp or xamp. That is only a 5 min job and gives you the opportunity to just have a look at any demo in a relaxed way.

I will make a little tutorial later today or tomorrow, might be handy for others as well. If you can't wait google is your best friend, because there are plenty of tuts about that around: Google I will make yet another one because i feel the ones i have found are making it look more difficult than it is.

hi maggoo, please excuse my ignorance, but why can't i just specifically backup my articles and pictures, uninstall joomla & youmovies, install youshows demo w/ joomla...and then re-upload my articles and pics?

thank you.

Of course you can. Your database contains several tables, each with its specific content/function. You can just backup those tables that contain the content (like jos_content), make a fresh demo install and overwrite just those tables responsible for the content. Point is, you got to know what you are doing then, and do some reading up before proceeding.

Therefore i recommended akeeba, this is easier and saver, but also for akeeba you got to do some reading up. This should get you started: https://www.akeebabackup.com/documen...transfers.html

I suspect you will say, hump, anything easier, and that's why i suggested what i did in above posts
