Joomla 1.6.Beta2 Stable version is now offered by most hosting companies in their cpanel. Go figure, they aren't even waiting for the final stable version. I have the two following question: has anyone tried this version with current templates offered by youjoomla?

Hi - IMHO, it is irresponsible for a hosting provider to offer a BETA version of an application for installation. My belief is that some people will install this version into production sites, then later get upset when it breaks, or serious issues are discovered and equally serious changes need to be made to a 'completed' site. Either way, this is still in the BETA stage, and the Joomla site clearly states that it should not be installed into production sites.

I can't say that "no" YouJoomla templates are or will be compatible with Joomla! 1.6; however, given the announced changes in 1.6, I doubt it. There have been a number of announced changes to templates and styling, and remember that we are still dealing with a product in its development stage, not a released product in its final form.

That said, I just downloaded a template (YouShows) and installed it into a virgin 1.6 Beta 2 install. The installation process showed a successful install; however, when I set this template to be default for the site, then visited the site, the site was broken. No shocker there.

In the template manager, things look nothing like they do in 1.5. So... It looks like 1.6 will need new and different templates.

Hi - I wanted to address your other question regarding going from 1.5.18 to 1.6.x. I know you deleted it since you originally posted it; however, it is a valid question.

Based on the process from going to 1.5.x from 1.0.x, I would not look for an automatic or easy upgrade path. I think of it as a migration, and expect that there will be a need for a migration script of some sort, just like there was for 1.5. Currently, there are no plans to support anything that requires legacy mode, so that will stop thousands of users from migrating.

If you wish to install the latest version, Joomla 1.6 Beta 2, you must install the whole thing over again. There are no updates or upgrades from previous versions of Joomla 1.6.

Thank you Jay for your quick response. You’re the best! You’ve shown again Youjoomla has an amazing talented team. Thorough n' detailed when and where necessary. I’ve learned a lot from you guys since I’ve been a Youjoomla member.. one of the major reasons I’ll renew my membership. You know… for the amount of knowledge and excellent customer service you guys provide to us, I’m always so grateful and wish there was some form of voluntary “donation jug” or “tip bar” system on Youjoomla where customers, like me, can donate to show our gratitude when a service is well done... Oh well… that’s just me.

Having said that… I asked the question because I was curious as to how the 1.6 version will affect most current joomla templates when the final stable version is released. It seems there might be a few major changes in the final version. I agree that it’s very irresponsible for some hosting to provide this version prior to final release. Anyways, I’m sure you guys will be prepared accordingly when that time comes. . By the way, I browsed your recommended hosting provider; they seem to have great hosting service. I’ll do a thorough read before making the decision. Once again, thanks Jay. you guys rock!
