Once Joomla 3.5 LTS comes out we will continue to release demos for Joomla 3.5.x.

This does not mean that you canot update our 2.5.x demos to Joomla! 3.1.1 or Joomla 3.x. 

Since our templates and extensions are already released for all Joomla! versions starting from 1.7 and up , you can use Joomla Update component in your demo admin and upgrade to Joomla 3.x STS ( short term support). Here is how to update your Joomla 2.5.x demo to Joomla 3.x STS. 

 

Please backup your installation before the update.
You will not be able to revert back to Joomla 2.5!

1. Install any of our Joomla 2.5.x template demos.
2. Make sure all extensions used in the demo are latest version. If not , just download and reinstall them.
3. Go to your new template demo admin area ( your_domain_name/administrator )
4. In Template demo administration go to Components->Joomla Update

 

5. Once you are in In Template demo administration Joomla Update look to your top right and click on icon options

 

6. From pop-up window select Update Server -> Short Term Support and click on "Save and Close"

 

7. Now you will be able to see update to Joomla 3.x. Click on Install the update

 

8. Once the update process is done you will see the "Your site has been successfully updated. Your Joomla version is now 3.1.1." message.

 

9. Test your website. If you have any issues please post them in template assigned forums.

Besides YJSG v1.0.14 work we have also finished the yjsimplegrid.com website which will be published with new framework version. As you can see the YJSG logo has also changed and we hope you like it. The YJSG website is packed with an extensive amount of helpful documentation articles that will help you customize and use our YJSG Template Framework.  

 

What is the delay then?

As some of you know our team spent some time to help implement a new feature in the Joomla CMS. Since the wait is over, we can now include the proposed code in our templates and release them to you. Beside that, we are updating all our Joomla 2.5 demos with upgraded extensions for Joomla 3.0 so that conversion from Joomla 2.5 to Joomla 3.0 is as painless as possible. Silviu is refining our YJCompression plugin that will help you speed up your website load time. 

 

We hope you understand that we are on track and that you will get your new toys as soon as possible. This time we will not give any dates but we will do our best to rush things out for you. Instead of releasing templates one by one, all demos, templates and YJSG new website will be released at the same time.

  

Please do not be alarmed if one or two templates are released in mean time. Once the YJSG v1.0.14 is out all you would need to do is one click reinstall to update your templates to new version.

we did not have default core template overrides examples except the documentation on how to make one.

To make things easier for you and provide small help to anyone who would like to change the default core extensions markup , I have made template override packs for Joomla 3.x core extensions wich includes overrides for core components and modules.

Pack 1 is default template override with no markup change. Pack 2 is also default template override but without calls for Bootstrap. Please note that in order to completely disable Bootstrap when using Pack 2 you also need to remove call for Bootstrap from your template index.php file.  

You can do this by commenting out folowing  line from your index.php:

JHtml::_('bootstrap.framework');

 

How does it work?

Just download the pack your need and move it to site_root/templates/template_name/html folder. Extract the zip and now you can control the layout of core Joomla! extensions from your template overrides folder.

To see example go to your website and find the page where module login is published. Now open site_root/templates/template_name/html/mod_login/default.php file and add some text.
Refresh your web page and your change will be visible.

 

and it has always proven how flexible it can be. Since we are working on our new Joomla Template and YJIS was a perfect candidate for the demo ,I couldn't help noticing that it is still lacking few features so I started adding them .

What I tought it will be few hours work , ended up stretching over 5 days , and we all know what one developer can do in 5 days :).
I remember Silviu saying " Dragan , this is a component not a module ".  What came out at the end is one of a kind image slider. 

I will mention just few module features and you be the judge:

• Use up to 20 images
• Responsive image slider
• Touch friendly ( simply love this one, broke my iPhone and iPad swiping lol.. )
• Create/Delete thumbnails in module slide manager
• Upload own thumbnails
• Upload images from module slide manager
• Enable/disable thumbnails belt navigation
• Disable/enable navigation arrows
• Position thumbnails navigation anywhere you want ( top , bottom , left , right )
• Included latest MediaboxAdvanced version  ( Thank you John! )
• Combine image/video gallery sets with slides
• Added module template creator and editor in module backend
• "Slide in use" indicator for active slides
• Sexy custom made tooltips

So the conclusion is...  there is always room for improvements no matter how good the product is.
And YJIS v4.0 simply proves that. So go ahead download and go crazy with it.

There are about 190 open issues in Joomla! tracker and 5 of them affect us directly. We simply cannot give you YJSG 1.0.14 until those issues are fixed and our products are carefully tested.

As you have noticed before we are not fans of beta and RC releases and would rather test on our own than use you as test subjects. There for please bare with us and we will release the new version as soon as possible. If you would like to know what is new in YJSG 1.0.14 please read our previous post.

We are taking advantage of  this upgrade to incorporate all the changes that are in Joomla 3.0 and slowly make transition to YJSG 2.0 where we will move the framework to a Joomla system plugin thus making version updates easier.

As you can see we have our hands full with 1.0.14 and all these changes will also be applied to existing Joomla 2.5 templates/demos. YJSG 1.0.14 and our new template of the month should be released by
10-25-2012  10-31-2012  unless we encounter some unexpected changes which we will advise on time.
Please understand that we rather delay the release than give you untested beta versions.
We do understand that you would like to see what is coming so here are few YJSG 1.0.14 snapshots:

Enhanced with brand new responsive administrator combined with Twitter Bootstrap Joomla 3.0 is paradise for templates/extensions developers that do not have to worry about UI anymore. 

We are aware that you have many questions and first let us advise you to use Joomla! 3.0 for production websites only if all your 2.5.x templates/extensions are compatible with it. Also note that 3.0 will be obsolete 30 days after  Joomla 3.1 is out .

It is up to you to decide to stick with Joomla 2.5 ( which we suggest ) until LTS ( long term release ) Joomla 3.5 comes out.  In meantime you might want to visit Joomla 3.0 FAQ and get information from Joomla! Team directly.

 

About our templates and extensions:

We wanted to keep this a secret until next template release but since Joomla! 3.0 is out we might as well advise you what is coming up. YJSG is about to get a huge makeover (v1.0.14) which will be compatible with Joomla 3.0 and Joomla 2.5. Beside compatibility, we are adding few more features for all Joomla 2.5/3.0 templates like:

• HTML5 by default
• Twitter Bootstrap ( for Joomla 2.5 with our JBootstrap plugin )
• Responsive layout
• Copyright notice change within template admin
• Default Font Squirrel settings
• Improved head code for faster rendering

JBootsrap what is that?

While doing some tests on Joomla 3.0 we could not stop thinking about all those Joomla! 2.5.x users that do not want to rush with upgrade but would love to have Twitter Bootstrap in their templates.

To make it easier for all of them we have published JBootstrap system plugin for Joomla 2.5.x that brings Joomla 3.0 boostrap framework to Joomla 2.5. This way you can play with Bootstrap as long as you want, and upgrade on your own terms.

JBootstrap is free for everyone and is released under GNU/GPL V2 license.

With that said we are off to bring you all the new things you deserve and you go ahead and play with Joomla ! 3.0.
