I checked in Firefox,IE and Opera the problem is the same and JavaScript is enabled
in all of them.

In IE I get error on page in the lower left corner:
Line: 234
Char: 3
Error: document Adminform.task is null or not object
Code: 0
URL: mywebpage/administrator/index.php?option=com_config

I also get an object required error..

In Opera error console I get the following msg:

JavaScript - http://mywebpage/administrator/index...tion=com_login
Inline script thread
Error:
name: ReferenceError
message: Statement on line 1: Undefined variable: postamble
Backtrace:

Im guessing this is javascript related? Also Save, apply and close buttons do not respond only the help button activates the help pop up window.

I also tried on a different computer and the problem is the same.

open it in FF , hold Ctrl and hit letter \ U \ see if source code comes up with any Error massage , than place it here. ERROR ONLY not the source code. Now also check if your files on the server are writable and have correct permissions on it. Is this a fresh install? What is your server info , php version MySQL version

No error msg comes up the code looks normal. php version 5.2.4 MySql 4.0.27-standard
although I transfered to a server which has MySql 5, 4.0.27-standard could be from the old configuration...

It is a hostingDemo installation and it went smoothly all the files installed flawlessly.
Error detection was on although it was recommended as off, that was the only red light in the installation.

What do the permissions need to be on the files? so I can check that..

hmmm , I have no more ideas , this is first time that someone mentioned blank blackened , it is most of the time blank frontend. Any way to install joomla in sub folder and check if the same problem is there?

Hi again, I installed joomla into a sub directory like you suggested and global preferences works fine now for the sub dir installation. The other Global pref from the original site is still blank...

So should I attempt to reinstall again? I dont want my site to be in a sub directory.
The problem dose not appear in the sub directory though.
