YJSG v2.0.0 pre-release feedback
Hello everyone. It would be great if you could post any feedback or suggestions for upcoming YJSG v2.0.0 before the first RC1 release.
Thank you! |
Since you are now on this path I would like to see the following implemented:
These are some basic elements that most sites will need. You might have then already built in somewhere. This concept is really forward thinking and I know I will benefit from it. |
@slowlyjam thnx for suggestion but those are pages and extensions I see lined up , we are talking about template framework.
example , how could we implement a newsletter inside of a template?. you still need module position for it to be published somewhere so than it should be a module. you understand what I mean? thing about built in slides/tabs/accordion is that they are all layouts , they do not perform any functions and they manipulate the modules published in specific position. But please keep the ideas flowing, I am sure there will be something else we can do for you. |
Hi guy's and thanks for the great job!
Keeps us web developers in business and helps us to make outstanding websites for our clients or to maintain our own ;) Here are a few of my first thoughts for improvement or wishes for improvement: 1: Quote:

Thnx orion here is sum down
1. I am thinking about this to , and just now debating the issue with box-sizing , padding and margins that is also in bootstrap 3.1.1. The issue is that I would need to make a js script that would calculate that margin/padding and present it to you in admin layout. Sure we can just add grid margin grid padding params in template manager but I want it to be visible. Still debating all of this and sure the development will continue so I am not sure in what version this will be added in 2. I introduced legacy mode for all templates that are made prior to YJSG 2.0.0 , this way I can make fresh new template that will be clean , easy to use , less class names , less addons we were forced to add from Joomla switching versions. I am currently working just on that. And YJ Mega Menu is new , new layout , individual class names , easy to change and very easy to style , example This all you need to style it Screenshot by Lightshot Screenshot by Lightshot and with that you styled 5 menu types 3 and 4. Don't forget this, you can always add new grid , new file, new position , in any of YJSG versions we dont touch those files on updates. Making the framework bulky because of an extra div or one module position is not what we are after. We want to keep it extendable with no limits and as simple as it gets so that everyone would understand the second it looks at the layout. Example of what I am talking about you can see also in Smartline. Stefan added new module position with one line in index.php. |
My number 1 request would be an End Level parameter on the main menu, like you get on standard Joomla menus. I know this can be achieved by using module position as the menu style, but then you have to style the menu yourself or use one of the bootstrap styles, which are not as well integrated with the template theme.
Great work on v2! |
@Nick , End Level ? Lost me a bit there. What do you mean by that?
Oh , you mean like 2 levels , this basically Screenshot by Lightshot well I do see this being somehow usefully if you have many menu items and want to hide levels but not sure why unpubish the menu items you dont want is being used. Can you collaborate bit more? This is a 2 sec job to add in we just have to make sure that simplicity is kept. |
It's useful because you don't always want more than 2 levels (or even 1) in the main menu, because it gets messy for visitors, but your site structure has more levels that you navigate through other means. Having it all structured under one menu makes the sitemap correct, the breadcrumbs work properly and makes it easy to drop side menus on any page for navigation to other levels. For that to work, all the items must be published.
Have a look at this site: Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service - Home. It has loads of levels, but only 2 visible in the main menu. This was achieved by using a second menu of alises as the main menu, but it's difficult to maintain. |
Ok, I see what you mean , will add in , easy as
