I may be missing something but I can't seem to find any good component for pro photographers photo galleries (Livebooks, Photo shelter, Smug mug, Vix etc.) Most photographers want simple, elegant galleries to browse photographs. It shouldn't be anything to take the attention off the images. Most developers create complex galleries with layers of stuff and too much happening at the same time (i.g. the thumbnails dodging the user efforts to click on them. I really hate that). Rokgallery by Rockettheme is an attempt for such solution. Nice backend but horrible front. It's not what photographers are looking for.
The downside of using these ready made solutions (Livebooks, Photo shelter, Smug mug, Vix etc.) is that I have no control of everything else. The upside is great photo galleries and great backend. The upside of using Joomla is great control of everything except the galleries.
YouJoomla seems to think that the solution is to have each photo as an article. It's OK for Demos but with hundreds of photographs in different categories it's a mind boggling effort.
Many photographers who want their own solution use Wordpress but it has problems on it's own. Basically lack of complete control. Blog isn't on every photographers bucket list. We communicate in pictures not words.
Perhaps YouJoomla can see potential in such a development...
The galleries on this site are made by jpgs in folders, xhtml and SimpleImageGalleryPro. Very basic.
