YJSG v2.0.0 pre-release feedback
Hello everyone. It would be great if you could post any feedback or suggestions for upcoming YJSG v2.0.0 before the first RC1 release.
Thank you! |
Since you are now on this path I would like to see the following implemented:
These are some basic elements that most sites will need. You might have then already built in somewhere. This concept is really forward thinking and I know I will benefit from it. |
@slowlyjam thnx for suggestion but those are pages and extensions I see lined up , we are talking about template framework.
example , how could we implement a newsletter inside of a template?. you still need module position for it to be published somewhere so than it should be a module. you understand what I mean? thing about built in slides/tabs/accordion is that they are all layouts , they do not perform any functions and they manipulate the modules published in specific position. But please keep the ideas flowing, I am sure there will be something else we can do for you. |
Hi guy's and thanks for the great job!
Keeps us web developers in business and helps us to make outstanding websites for our clients or to maintain our own ;) Here are a few of my first thoughts for improvement or wishes for improvement: 1: Quote:

Thnx orion here is sum down
1. I am thinking about this to , and just now debating the issue with box-sizing , padding and margins that is also in bootstrap 3.1.1. The issue is that I would need to make a js script that would calculate that margin/padding and present it to you in admin layout. Sure we can just add grid margin grid padding params in template manager but I want it to be visible. Still debating all of this and sure the development will continue so I am not sure in what version this will be added in 2. I introduced legacy mode for all templates that are made prior to YJSG 2.0.0 , this way I can make fresh new template that will be clean , easy to use , less class names , less addons we were forced to add from Joomla switching versions. I am currently working just on that. And YJ Mega Menu is new , new layout , individual class names , easy to change and very easy to style , example This all you need to style it Screenshot by Lightshot Screenshot by Lightshot and with that you styled 5 menu types 3 and 4. Don't forget this, you can always add new grid , new file, new position , in any of YJSG versions we dont touch those files on updates. Making the framework bulky because of an extra div or one module position is not what we are after. We want to keep it extendable with no limits and as simple as it gets so that everyone would understand the second it looks at the layout. Example of what I am talking about you can see also in Smartline. Stefan added new module position with one line in index.php. |
My number 1 request would be an End Level parameter on the main menu, like you get on standard Joomla menus. I know this can be achieved by using module position as the menu style, but then you have to style the menu yourself or use one of the bootstrap styles, which are not as well integrated with the template theme.
Great work on v2! |
@Nick , End Level ? Lost me a bit there. What do you mean by that?
Oh , you mean like 2 levels , this basically Screenshot by Lightshot well I do see this being somehow usefully if you have many menu items and want to hide levels but not sure why unpubish the menu items you dont want is being used. Can you collaborate bit more? This is a 2 sec job to add in we just have to make sure that simplicity is kept. |
It's useful because you don't always want more than 2 levels (or even 1) in the main menu, because it gets messy for visitors, but your site structure has more levels that you navigate through other means. Having it all structured under one menu makes the sitemap correct, the breadcrumbs work properly and makes it easy to drop side menus on any page for navigation to other levels. For that to work, all the items must be published.
Have a look at this site: Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service - Home. It has loads of levels, but only 2 visible in the main menu. This was achieved by using a second menu of alises as the main menu, but it's difficult to maintain. |
Ok, I see what you mean , will add in , easy as

Website download speed
Hi Neo,
Reading your YJSG 2.0 white paper, your forthcoming improvements sound A-Maz-Ing! Big thank you to all at YouJoomla.com. One item comes to mind: anything you folks can do to help reduce typical website download speed would be much appreciated. I know that many factors affect how long a web page takes to render sufficiently, including better server, less fluff, graphics, CDN, etc. But it would be great to see if your YJSG 2.0 changes can improve page download on a typical shared server, without any further changes made. Fingers crossed :-) |
CSS compression is changed and is much better now, but for after 1.0.16 merge I have planned full compression integration js/css etc.We cant work on JS compress now since I just want this release to get out A.S.A.P so that we can concentrate on 1 thing only ( the plugin ) instead of 104 templates.

It would be useful to enable the new Google Universal Analytics as well or instead of the old tracking code.
https://developers.google.com/analyt...rade/?hl=en_GB |
@Nick that is in remaining tasks list, suggested by orion,
|
Universal GA is in , since it can be personalized and customized we added a text area where you can place complete UA code including all tags

Suggested Implementations YJSG v2.0.0
1) I think demdulo new positions could be created and handled (by dragging only) by admin framework itself, as already happens with the framework of JOOM SHAPER. And in their own positions I would score it would despnveis for all devices or that module does not appear to smartphones or tables, etc..
2) I think it would be very useful if most of the CSS theme could also be changed by the admin theme. 3) Another important item is that the content (images and text) should not load from time to inicialilzar a page. Loading will should go so far as if it were rolling pigia. Since some sites have a lot of content and the loading time makes the site slower, since it requires more requests from the database. |
@ Merado , not sure how intensive you used YJSG but it comes with 7 grids predefined for you which is 56 module positions from the start .
So your number 1 kinda seems excessive here since all module positions are there. Helix does not have them loaded 2. I am not sure what you mean by that. You want to change admin CSS? 3. Content loading has nothing to do with template. Your component and modules are responsible for that if you want lazy load, it is built in YJSG |
Treeview menu & categories
Hi great work!
I would like to have an menu option with a tree view too something like this. Vina Treeview for Menus and also for categories same style. What you think? Vina Treeview for Content |
@ssnobben , that is more a module feature not framework. and it is very easy to do . it is a menu module styled like a tree via css. We might looking in to something like that but for now we are collecting framework features . Thank you for your input!

Hi neo,
Two suggestions; Remove mootools depencies (validate etc) Add something like this Insert Article by ID - Joomla! Extensions Directory, especially for easy content in the inbuild tabs/accordions, just add article idd instead of confusing brackets shortcodes with loads of content between them😉 |
none of joomla cores will be touched , we are not messing with it
extending yes , changing core no when they decide for moo to be gone framework will still work messing with it now and adding our own core validate process makes no sense and I see it as overload. #2 is a module , not sure how would that fit inside a framework, if you installed demo you can see that it has no 3rd party modules at all |
Hi Neo
Just following up on your last statement, "if you installed demo you can see that it has no 3rd party modules at all" If I wanted to impliment something like in YJ Sphere Slider I would need to install it or not? |
well sure , I was referring that demo did not require any modules since there is alot of shortcodes built in
|
Thanks Neo.
I just wanted to confirm if a short code was in place to deal with that situation. Would it be possible to list the short code presently included with examples? |
I must be slow, but I cannot find how you implemrnted the tabs in the Eximium Demo.
The tabs under "YJSG v2 Joomla! template framework on steroids!" |
|
Thanks for the documentation Neo, but I would still appreciate you pointing me the example in the Eximium Demo so that I can work my way through it. It will help me to understand it better.
Please, what is the difference between Tabnav and Tabpills. Thanks again. |
Is itpossible to insert my own icons. If yes, how and what are the dimension?
Thanks. |
Insert as in how , add own set of font icons or ? I am sorry I dont understand.
Tabnav , Tab pills , I think you see the visual difference , one is tabs another one is pill |
Thanks Neo.
Yes, create and add own set of font icons |
I would import them in custom.css , that is all
there is not much to font icons , get the css and font and call it |
Thanks Neo.
One question please: How long did it take you to concieve of the v2 implimentation? Every time I look at something, there is more, I cannot even imagine of the next level. |
It took us about 8 months of very hard work. Biggest problem was to merge pre plugin templates to new versions. But from here it will be much easier.
Yes , if I look back where we were from first template to today it is overwhelming. |
It looks like you are working on the "less is more" principle as it relates to Joomla extensions.
It is well appreciated and will only improve Joomla websites. Well done and thanks again. |
|
do me a favor and test this html
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/YJ...odes/Tabs.html is that a module , article what is that ? |
Thank you Neo. I did the test and I now have up the centered Tab, but there is a problem.
On page load the tabs comes up showing the content for the first tab, when you go to the other tabs the content disappears and stays that way until the page is reloaded. This is also happening with the test file you gave me. Please, what could be causing this? |
Hello.
I have made a clean installation of the new theme and I thought it was a light template but I see so many css files and so many js files loaded :( Screenshot by Lightshot Is it possible to have a simple template without we have to load all those stuffs? Thanks |
It is a framework and having all framework options garbled in to one file is not the way it should be done. everything is separated and trust me when I say that is light weight, compare to other frameworks and report back
|
and you might want to set this to yes once you done editing
