Site improvement

I look forward to see the new improvements on the Youjoomla site.
so far, new logo :)

keep up the good work guy's, YJ is by far the best!

What I have struggled with is when I am looking for a template for a project the product pages are setup so I have to make extra clicks to get to an image I can see. I don't think the image slice is enough for me to get a real sense of what a template looks like. The product pages the way Gavick setup their site is an excellent example of what works best...;)

Even if you just gave us a popup image that shows the full page would be much more valuable than the way it is now.

That feature is in , our showcase , template news , download section will be merged and you will have previews of template images before clicking on demos. I got tired of constant clicking also :). I should have listed some of the features but let me check with admins first.

I got a green light :) , see my first post for proposed changes

Skip2MyLou 12-19-2011 11:40 AM

The new Youjoomla is gonna rock! :)

I am curious what people will say about the Live Chat ... XD

neo 12-19-2011 06:53 PM

We just got a very interesting comment on our blog about this. Since user is not registered I cannot award them but here is the comment and I would like Leslie to register so we can give away the first 30 days free membership.

It would be nice to have templates listed in a category with a rating system (maybe stars) to break each template down. Example given: --> Ease of install ****, Ease of use *****, This template is best suited for? Commercial, home, gaming etc...

Also show off your templates with members who have used them in designing or creating their own websites. Put a link or website name on members who have used their templates to show new members and existing ones how you can manage and manipulate your templates. Have this on the same page as each template.

Have a feature for "best overall template from a member" each month and maybe give them a free extension or extra month free for being a featured member with that template on your site.

neo 12-19-2011 09:23 PM

We fund Leslie :) she got 30days free Silver membership. Have fun!

Hello!
You can make a ranking of the best custom made to your site templates, extensions, etc. This will stimulate the creativity of your users and you will see new ideas how to structure a site.
Can distinguish several groups - Best online store, best news site the best "green" site, etc.

Search Quickly

Hi, first let me say that YouJoomla has helped me so much in learning Joomla and expanding my own creative ideas - THANK YOU!

As for suggestions to your new site redesign, I would like to see a simpler member search both in the extensions area and in the templates.

Keep up the good work! You have a dedicated customer here:D

Happy Holidays!

Very pleased that the respected studio, helping to make our websites more functional, better and ... beautiful, are decided to use yourself experience to your site.

I would suggest for new site design consider the following points:

1. It would be nice to use for the proposed template tags that define their optimal orientation / use. For example: business, blog, catalog, e-commerce, etc., it would quickly find suitable options templates.

2. The same fully applies to the submission of extensions, that is, to make the system tagging - in any of the presented templates can be seen the proposed extension in action.

3. Change the system of demonstration extensions.
Now, how the expansion in action, you can see in one of the templates are used that are not fully display their abilities.
I would like to see the show of work extensions in two versions: without template (pure) and in the template - to do it help the system of tag, indicating what templates are used this extension.
This will allow more fully evaluate the performance of the module or plugin.

4. Revise the DOWNLOAD section - the main key ideas - show the visual design (sketches) of products for downloads.

There are a few suggestions, but they are out of this subject and more to do with expanding the range of customers, and I am ready to share his thoughts, if it need.

With best wishes,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2012!
Good luck and good creative ideas!

our download section will be completely moved and you wil get much faster and better search results. You will have dropdown autoselect list with all extensions/listed plus refined search, this one might roll out before actual 4.0

Thank you for the input .
1. Currently you can do that on our demo showcase , and that will be ported with native news items and demo showcase
Joomla Templates - Youjoomla Templates Demo

2.will be same as 1

3. you have a point there , 30 days membership for you :). I will make sure that plain visual and technical presentation of extensions is available on 1 demo page with all available extensions listed and seen in action. This will run on joomla native template so that you can actually see the default.

4. pointed out and our biggest concern.

What I would like to see

Wishlist from the new guy:

1. On either the Club Templates or Extensions page: Ability to sort by any available/populated field/attrib (size, date added, date updated, supported Joomla version(s), etc. etc.). This will only become more evident as your portfolio of templates and extensions expand over time;
2. Faster access to the demos, especially the template demos - i.e. more links in more places (or just more convenient/constantly close by - like the User menu block up in the header area of your site now;
2ABC.....lol - More and direct access to the things that matter to the customer, being content of yours - that we actually use. Customize the FOCUS of the portal/account page to highlight what they've downloaded, aiming them at tutorials, manuals, videos, forum posts (stickies), and other materials related and pertinent to their templates/extensions they use. Links such as technical specifics of templates like their module styles, positions, params and so on that matter to us when we're setting them up for example. I refer to them pretty regularly until I finish a milestone of completion on a site. Specifics related to extensions too. Maybe have a way for us to specify which template(s) and/or extensions we use in our profiles somewhere or it just detect what we've downloaded, and that in turn will create a My Stuff page or whatever, that automatigically creates us links to the aforementioned content items. Any related pages too - internal or external (if any). Possibly even have the download system detect what we've downloaded and using that as well?
4. Breakout sections of technical specifications (esp for templates). Currently everything is written in a paragraph format. Change that a bit. Have it be sectioned out instead, so that it is a more technical layout marketing a technical product to techie Joomla Freaks like us ;D
i.e.
Template/Extension Name: _________
Version: ________
Size: _________
Supported Joomla version(s): _________
Created &/or Updated Last dates: _________
etc
etc
and for templates be sure to specify overall layout options: # columns, # mod positions, # of styles, etc. and then go into the position names themselves, so that those too can be searched online - i.e. so users can find say, all your templates that use a particular module position(s) as 1 example.
Additionally, be sure to include all the particulars regarding what module(s) you used in your actual demos, and what you did where (frontend or backend - screenshots? vid clips/tutorials?) so that your users can pimp out their sites to make them look like yours without having to do the whole demo install and wiping their own sites or other such complicated and time-consuming steps to get there too.

The above format changes will not only streamline overall design, and workflow, but also the customer/user experience will get a nice upgrade on top of the added benefit of the above "labels" being searched against (i.e. "joomla 2.5" query returning all templates with 2.5 support sort of thing)

I think you get the jist now. Maybe you're already doing this in the upcoming overhaul, so if you are - sorry for the duplication....but I haven't seen it yet with my own eyes - so mention it here jik.

I am sure I will think of more....will update here if I do.
Peace!

Joomlajay

few suggestions

Hi,thank you very much for:..you have a point there , 30 days membership for you...:)

In a previous post I talked about the proposal which, in my opinion, could expand the range of your customers.

1. I am not from English-speaking country. I'm from the Russian-speaking countries. And I know the complexity associated with the translation of extensions, applications, and templates to another language.
Clearly, this is not a major problem for your company. Of course, we can use Google Translator. But there are quite a number of extensions that are integrated into the site and do it much faster and easier.
Therefore, step one:
If you make a multilingual site, I think this step will expand the geography of your customers and increase their number!
I understand that the quality of automatic translation is far from perfect,
so the second step:
You can to attract in mutually beneficial, interested web developers - who is a native speakers, to translate the extensions and templates of your company to own (native) language. Joomla allows to do is not very difficult.
It direction can develop further, but I would have stayed as long as these two steps!

2. Several adjustments to the current situation, this a not complete offers for improvements, but, its offer for usability :

You have a good Template Yougrids Joomla 1.6 Template in Free Templates, although this template is already in version 1.7, which in my opinion is more in demand than 1.6 - just need to change the name to Yougrids Joomla 1.7 Template, it's easier for clients (if we consider that Yougrids for Joomla 1.5 template is defined as for 1.5)

About the placement of the menu item - OUR SHOWCASE - it is at the very end of menu, when you are look to the site, the menu item PRODUCTS, you do not come to it! At the end of the menu as usual to see anything type of: Contact, About Us, etc., ie logically completes the review of a site. Maybe it would be right to put OUR SHOWCASE paragraph menu or directly into category PRODUCTS, or next to it!?

Best regards.

nazirisk 01-17-2012 02:32 PM

Hello,
You could categorize your templates like, Portfolio, Market, News etc. It make it easy for us to find templates for our needs plus the Search module that they mention other members before. That would be grade!:)

johaswe 01-18-2012 11:28 PM

Hi,

Here is my suggestions -
1. Facebook integration, a login integration with facebook.
2. Community showcase - A place where you can put links to your Youjoomla sites for all to see and get inspired by.
3. Competition site - Where you can put up competitions to engage your members - like creating the best site for 30 day membership.
4. link by each template "Members showcase" that links to a setup where members have posted their sites for inspiration that they have built with that template.
5. Points system for active members that can be exchanged for cool stuff like exclusive templates or memberships. Points for posting inspirational link, buying membership, posting in forum etc.

Thats my ideas - the template inspirational links are the one i like the best :)

Kind regards,
Joel

Hi,

Below please see what I would like to see in V4.

1. Pre-sale Forum
Child boards for different categories, so that the questions and answers can be more targeted. This would help persons looking to purchase a specific product and might have questions that have already been answered.

2. From time to time YJ would have had products that have a problem. The problems would have been detected and to be fixed or have been fixed. It would be nice to have a particular place for this information. So persons with problems would go there first even before posting in the Forum. It could also include things like work-a-round.

johaswe 01-20-2012 02:38 AM

Hi again,

I just thought of another thing - What about a Voice component to get to know your users needs?
Any member gets 10votes/month to put on ideas/template genre etc that they would like to see.
You will get an instant overview on what template most users need and can focus on working on the voices with most votes.

Instant Apple iPad compatibility indicator

Hi, it would be nice to be able to either see instantly whether a template is 100% compatible with tablets like the Apple iPad - so be able to quickly clarify things like Flash components, etc.

I know that some research can determine that, but an "at-a-glance" indicator, or icon, would be a great time-saver.

Maybe even extend the same idea to also cover Android-based tablets too, using of course a different indicator.

What do you think?

YJSG framework is compatible with mobile devices so all templates immediately are compatible

I got one more idea -
Create Social and E-commerce template matches for your current templates.
Upgrade them with Jomsocial and Virtuemart template matches and mark them with two icons, one for social template included and one for e-commerce template included.
That way it would be simple to select a template for a new community for example.

Just checking, as i have not had feedback on my ideas like i see that others got.
Did you find any of the ideas useful at all?

Kind regards,

BESETY 01-30-2012 10:12 AM

1- Tutorials: Please include good tutorials and keep them updated specially for beginners
2- Website vs template Id like to see how people is using the template, itd give the idea of different element or module webmasters are using
3- Include Search button for the general site
4- Personal notification by email when templates or extensions are updating
5. Extensions: Replace the red image for the real image of the template. Include more information like date updated, language, etc

Best regards,

Besety

Hi Rocaloca,

I think you should get much better response in the support forum as this thread is about improving the already great youjoomla site :)

@Youjoomla team - How long is this promotion running? I mean that you want suggestions for improvements? (my suggestion is that you never stop running it - always improve :) )

Regards,
Johaswe

neo 02-06-2012 07:33 PM

@johaswe this will never stop we always want to know how to make it easier on you. but after YJv4 is out this forum post will be named differently. currently we will use all suggestions and make it easier.

To reveal something new , today we started making brand new file repository that will be introduced on YJv4 and will be available in club members downloads. Now when I say this most of you might think that well there are so many of repository extensions , but I can say that I tested ALL of them , and NONE has all features we need , so , this one will be built from a user perspective with all our current download area features plus mixture of K2 logic. We have one of the K2 devs working on it with us.

johaswe 02-07-2012 04:48 AM

Hi neo,

That is great to hear!

Once again i think that a voice component would be great to use for collection of both Site, template and component suggestions.
This enables you to get the most important (what most users need) changes into development pipeline.
#1 A user posts the idea/suggestion
#2 All other users votes (thumbs up's) an idea/suggestion
#3 You take the suggestion/idea into action and reward the voice creator

Ofcourse it works fine to keep it in a forum - just using a voice component would create a sorted/ordered channel for you to connect with users and keeping forum as a user-to-user connection.

Kind regards,
Johaswe

rrosati 02-08-2012 04:47 AM

Hi, generally I like YJ. Nevertheless there are few optimization potentials that I would like to share with you:

- Download-Section / Extensions
--> Add a written tutorial how to use/modify the extension. This based on your experience as well as the different posts of the users (in general always the same questions e.g. from horizontal to vertical, insert pictures, change directions, etc.). This tutorial as PDF

- Download-Section / Templates
--> Same as extensions ... tutorial how to modify, add styles, etc. ... also as PDF

- Templates:
--> insert a print-function in the parameters that shows you on a sheet how the grids has been defined (this for documentation of website)

- Templates:
--> The YJ-Templates looks basically all the same ... changing some style-colors, but same layout ... some times templates needed for little bit more youth/children and looking less business/professional ... see this example: Welcome to the Frontpage

- Templates: Very interesting!
--> add functionality in templates in order to change style automatically: e.g. choosing a color (style; not fixed defined by YJ green, grey, blue and brick...) then alle headlines uses this colors as well as background for header-section and footer. So there must not add a style separately and changing also all pictures. This also for the general background. In the past there were the possibility to define the grey or dark background.

- Improving Service
--> I've send several emails to contact address and never get an answer. This is part of your quality and should be improved

Hope that's fine in this way.

johaswe 02-09-2012 06:33 AM

Hi there!

I guess YJ could definately do a voice component that beats JA ;)
Otherwise pick the competitors work - no need to reinvent the wheel if it cannot be rounder, faster and have better grip. :)

Anyway, looking forward to hear if any of my suggestions gets into the loop.

Hi There!

I got another idea while browsing around - Saw that you have released conversion tracker recently. You should have a conversion tracker next to each template in the template lists.
That way one could stroll trough your templates easy and fast knowing directly what templates/components are availible.

:)
