Hello, I am a potential new customer wishing to purchase the You Movies template for a project I am doing.
One thing I have noticed about this fantastic peice of kit is that you can see the direct url links to the .flv files in the View Source code, now I have a concern regarding this as a nosey visitor could see these in the source code and link these files directly to another website and start stealing bandwith or the user can download directly to thier local machine, which we do not want due to liscensing laws. How can these url links be removed from the View source but the site knows where the files are located? Is the development team at You! Joomla rewriting the module/component where the View source code will not display such url location of such files? Is there a way of manipulating where such direct url files in the source code are hidden from the public? Best Regards, |

the player is on client side so currently there is no way to deny access to movies. you made a nice stir with your question and I thank you for it since our sister company is currently developing new standalone all platforms flv player and this question is last peace that must be incorporated in.
thank you! |

I just browsed source files from more than 1 bit famous flv player , and each of them , I mean each of them
has either link to a file or link to xml list where you always get the file paths. so current 100% solution is not possible . we do not want the player to be 100% flash since you will not be able to edit it , but even if it is the file will still have xml playlist. sure not jet on Youtube player level but again , Moeya Youtube flv video download cracked them as well ![]() I am very interested in finding solution on this and will report back if I get a hint of possible yes |

No problem, and one last thing that just popped into my head is also making sure users are unable to download the flash files using the RealPlayer download gadget, I know that BBC have overcome this where you cannot use this method to download flash movies direct from the front end of the website. This could also be put into consideration with the developers. TO be honest I think this has been overlooked so many times which I think this underlying issue needs to be brought to the webmasters / development teams attention. Thanks.

I am really intrigued as well, if your developers can over come this even at youtube level, this could be a unique selling point for you guys and a few steps ahead of the others

it is already in "to do" list of dev team so let see if they can overcome this issue which I know for a fact that is one of the hardest ones, apple, bbc, youtube none of them are able to protect the files from download , only way of protection is branding their name in the flv file itself. you see solution from bbc worked on IE but how many other browsers can you use to get the files. if we do this than it most be cross browser and 100% otherwise money and time wasted . this is why we will take everything in consideration first and than start if we see a solution for it

Absolutely, one thing you mentioned is branding the videos...we are producing our own content to be published this autumn when the site is launched is how do you brand the player so if the user does download the content it will have our logo on the video...making this 50/50 transparent?

Another thought is if you put the flv files onto a dedicated private server. Lets say the site is on D1 and the files are on D2. D1 can stream from D2 to show on the movie component i.e. recognises the IP address of the website, then if a user then decides to copy the url link on to their system or link to another website, D2 will reject access because D2 doesn't recognise the users IP addresss, that's another thought! Not sure if that method would work though! I don't know if that is tried and tested....
