Post Pass department name value to message subject box?

Hi there,

I would like some help with two related issues, both using multi-department forms.

1) When the user selects a department name, I would like the department name value to be passed to the message subject input box. For example, I have a department called 'Ticket Sales'. If the user selects this department, I would like this value to be entered into the message subject box. This could be done after the form is posted, but before validation.

I also want the message subject box to be hidden so that the user cannot edit this value. This ensures that when the email appears in my local inbox, it will have the subject heading 'Ticket Sales'.

2) I also have a department called 'Everything Else'. This department will deal with everything else (clever, huh!). If the user selects this, I would like the subject message box to be visible in the normal way, so that the user can enter their own subject value.

This is presumably a simple coding issue. I am not very familiar with website coding (although I have coded just about everything else), so at the very least I need to be pointed to the file that I need to modify.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I looked at a quick fix for this request, but what it boils down to is that this request is way beyond "reasonable customization". But the request is noted, so maybe if YJ Contact us is developed further it will be taken into consideration.

Cool

I can see that there may be some minor complications to this, however, the functionality I am requesting would make this extension more attractive from a web developers perspective.

Here it is:-

1) Add a switch to allow department names to be used as the message subjects
2) Hide the message subject input box from the user if (1) is true
3) Define a 'catch all' department such as "Other" that is not piped to the subject message object
4) If the user selects the 'catch all' department defined in (3), then the subject message text box is unhidden and the user can enter a message subject of their choice.

This has got to be a pretty low cost win. How about putting in this change request?

I just put this in the I wish category of the forum and who knows what the future holds.

Thanks for this. Here's hoping someone fancies tinkering around with this soon.

Speak again soon, maggoo, no doubt.
